When you have or are trying to achieve a million-dollar smile, the last thing you want to do is short-change your oral hygiene. Routine preventative care, and a healthy oral hygiene practice, can make a dramatic difference in the look and feel of your smile. At Clint Bruyere, DDS, Dr. Clint Bruyere can customize an oral hygiene routine to keep your smile clean and healthy for a lifetime.
Our mission is to help you achieve excellent oral health and a smile that will WOW for a lifetime. We strive to impart knowledge about achieving the best dental and oral health to our patients. Here’s some helpful advice you can use today.
It’s essential to clean the entire surface of every tooth when brushing. Also, holding the toothbrush at the correct angle plays an important role. Holding your toothbrush at a 45-degree angle allows you to reach the best hard-to-reach spots, such as the sides, cheeks, and tongue. The best way to achieve total coverage on every surface is to use gentle circular motions as you brush from the back of your teeth.
Brushing the back is vital as plaque can build and penetrate teeth and gums if left unchecked. Also, you want to give your tongue special attention as bacteria buildup can lead to bad breath. And, as for the best toothbrush, avoid getting too caught up in fancy designs; as long as your brush has soft bristles that won’t irritate your gums, you should be fine.
The best way to floss between teeth is to use a piece measuring 18-24 inches, wrapping about four inches around the index finger on the opposite hand. You want to grip the floss between your bent forefinger and thumb, then gently work it between two teeth using a steady and gentle sawing motion. Now, you don’t want to force the floss; gently rub it in a C shape around every tooth, making light contact with the gum line each time. You also want to keep your head from moving the floss, only your hands. Your head should remain perfectly still so you can maintain better control. Continue flossing until you’ve cleaned all the spaces between your teeth, including behind-the-back ones.
Your smile is a lifelong investment that pays off every day. You can achieve and maintain your best smile by following a consistent and easy-to-follow dental routine.
