For those with less than perfect teeth, you may be considering the porcelain veneers process in Longview, TX, or wherever you live. Veneers are a unique way to improve your teeth’ overall look and shape without significant dental intervention. They are an excellent method for getting the perfect smile you have always wanted. The veneer process is much more straightforward than you might imagine and involves four steps.
The initial step is to have a consultation. The dentist will clean your teeth, look at them, and then tell you if you are a good candidate for veneers. Teeth that are significantly damaged or crooked or teeth that are not very strong may not be a good candidate for veneers and may be better suited for different procedures like caps. Your dentist will talk to you about what types of veneers are available, what the overall process is, and may help you set up an appointment to come back and have the procedure done.
After you have consulted with your dentist about having veneers and decided that you are a good candidate, you will likely make a second visit and start the process. During this first appointment in the procedure, the dentist will trim the enamel on the teeth to help get them ready for the veneers. Shaving the enamel makes space for the veneer without dealing with bulky teeth that do not look natural.
Your dentist will then take molds of your teeth to help the lab create the veneers and make them fit your teeth. They will also determine your natural tooth color and help you decide what color you want your veneers to be. The lab will then design your veneers, and you will come back in after they are made to have them affixed. In most cases, your dentist will attach a temporary set of veneers until your permanent set is done so that they protect your teeth until the procedure can be finished.
The last step is to affix your permanent veneers to your teeth. Your dentist will remove the temporary veneers and apply a thin layer of resin to attach the permanent veneers. The resin is cured to help make sure the veneer is firmly attached. After all of the veneers are attached and fixed, your dentist will remove any excess that has built up and will do a final inspection to make sure that they fit well and that they will work well for you. Veneers can completely change the shape and the look of your smile and give you a perfect smile you have always wanted.
